1Pulse "12 Days of Christmas", Day 4: The gift of entertainment (tv/film version)

Years ago, we realized that our families share the same holiday tradition: watching “holiday” movies that actually are not about the holidays. Everyone knows and loves the timeless Christmas classics. Those are great to watch after Thanksgiving, but we’re talking about those films that for one reason or another are best watched around the holiday season. Here is our list. What are your viewing traditions around this time of year?

Die Hard

We’re not sure “seasons greetings” will soon be replaced by “yippee ki-yay m0+#$#@#@$!”, but this is a fantastic movie to watch during the holidays. Nakatomi plaza is decked out for the holidays and eventually the tower itself gets lit up like a Christmas tree. What could be more festive?

Trading Places

This “holiday” classic features not ready for prime time players who are definitely in their prime. Watching an indigent Dan Aykroyd try and stuff a full salmon into his Santa suit should be all you need to know to categorize this one as a Christmas classic.

Gremlins

C’mon. The whole premise of the movie is this cute little guy is given as a Christmas gift! Wonder if he’ll stay all fuzzy and nice like that.

Lethal Weapon

Our second pick from the 80’s movie genre of “cop movies set in L.A. around the holidays and lots of stuff gets shot and blown up”. The classic ending fight scene with Riggs and the (really bad guy) is in Murtaugh’s yard, which is gloriously decorated for the season. This movie is definitely a Christmas movie, no question. They practically broke into song when the fight was over.

About Last Night

This sleeper of a classic really has 6 main characters: The 4 young professionals (Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Elizabeth Perkins, & John Belushi), the city of Chicago, and The Holidays. Based on a play written by David Mamet this film hits all the right notes that give you “the feels”. The Windy City backdrop, along with different celebratory events throughout the year, mark relational milestones good and bad. This movie is more than just another “brat pack” installment… although we like all those other Brat Pack movies too!

Home Alone

This almost didn’t make the list because it sort of has just become an actual holiday tradition for most people to watch this at Christmas. The director himself said he wanted to make a “Christmas movie”. But we decided to add it because it’s so much fun.

Game of Thrones

We threw this one in there 1) because winter is coming (constantly in this show) and 2) Eric promises to finally watch it this year so Jenn and our dear friend Hannah can finally talk about it backstage. Spoilers and all!

Let us know what you’re watching this holiday season!

1Pulse "12 Days of Christmas", Day 3: The gift of togetherness.

We named our entertainment company "1Pulse" on this principle: that regardless of race, color, creed, origins, status, or ideology; music brings us together on its rhythms and beats. Many heartbeats that individually work on quite different syncopations, necessarily unifying as one, to operate in the singular space of music creation: The ONE PULSE...

We've often thought that if people were able to act in life as musicians do in coming together for songs, then maybe -- just maybe -- we would have a better world for ourselves. The holidays at their best evoke a similar spirit.

All this to say that if Bing Crosby and David Bowie can get together for the holidays, then there is hope for humanity.

Enjoy one of our favorite disjunctive duos who came together over music and Christmas. It truly is a magical time of year!

1Pulse "12 days of Christmas" Day 2: The Gift of Music

1Pulse "12 days of Christmas" Day 2: The Gift of Music

A major part of the holiday spirit is aesthetics. The spirit is quite literally palpable as the sights, sounds, and smells fill the air and bring joy. Today (and most days at 1Pulse) we are going to focus on the "sounds" part of the wonderful holiday spirit and share with you our seasonal playlist!

This playlist was handpicked by us. They are Christmas songs, holiday songs, or just songs that we think fit the season. We recommend you put it on shuffle while cooking, hanging out with loved ones, having a solitary moment, or crank it up and start doing the Fezziwig Jig!

We'd also LOVE to know what YOU'RE favorite holiday songs/versions are. Please comment about which songs you are listening to this holiday season. Who knows, they may just end up on Jenn & Eric's super #1 Fun Holiday Jams!

At its best, music brings people together. Hopefully this holiday season, you'll enjoy our playlist and think happy thoughts... We'll be thinking of you!

Until we meet again, happy Holidays to you and yours!

1Pulse "12 Days of Christmas", Day 1

The holiday season has always been a time to be together with loved ones and to spread cheer. It's also a time be charitable in both spirit and cause to friends and strangers alike. This year at 1Pulse we want nothing more than to give you all a big hug (preferably after our Christmas show!). Since we can't do that, the next best thing is to share our holiday cheer with you from our homes to yours!

The first installment of "12 days of 1Pulse Christmas" is this beautifully done video by Jenn (and the Jenns?), singing their version of "Mary Did You Know". Enjoy!
